FCC Bureau of Wireless Telecommunications

The Wireless Telecommunications Bureau (WTB) handles nearly all FCC domestic wireless telecommunications programs, policies, and outreach initiatives. Wireless communications services include Amateur, Cellular, Paging, Broadband PCS, Public Safety, and more The only wireless services not under the jurisdiction of the WTB are satellite communications and broadcasting.
The WTB is subdivided into specific divisions for each area of its jurisdiction. The acting Chief of the WTB is Catherine W. Seidel. The specialized divisions of the WTB are the Auctions and Spectrum Access Division, Broadband Division, Mobility Division, Public Safety and Critical Infrastructure Division, Spectrum and Competition Policy Division, and the Spectrum Management Resources and Research Technology Division. The respective responsibilities of the Divisions are to: oversee auctions of available electro-magnetic spectrum, facilitate rapid deployment nationwide of wireless broadband services, provide efficient use of radio spectrum for mobile services while creating minimal regulatory oversight, develop a regulatory framework to ensure that public health and safety personnel have effective access to critical infrastructure, especially in times of crisis, foster competition and regulatory policies to provide efficient use of scarce spectrum, and finally, to manage information technology and provide outreach programs to the nation. The WTB provides information on available spectrum and bandwidth regulations. The WTB also provides the correct forms for licensing and using spectrum.
